Midlands Division Three West (South)

DIRECTOR of Rugby Julian Bailey admits there is a lot of work to be done over the summer to prepare his confidence drained side after they were finally relegated from the Midlands Division Three West(South) on Saturday.

Defeat on Saturday, the bottom side's 18th of the season, confirmed what had seemed on the cards for some time that Droitwich would be back in the Midlands Division Four West next season.

Bailey though has already drawn up a lengthy to do list to re-invigorate the side in time for the 2005/2006 campaign.

He said: "There is an awful lot to do over the summer.

"It's more than one specific area and more a lot work overall to make sure we're ready for next season."

Bailey's biggest task is to attract an experienced head coach to bring some leadership to a first team squad, which has had its confidence knocked from pillar to post.

Droitwich never recovered from Travis MacIntyre's failure to settle in and motivate the team at the start of the season.

While the Australian left before Christmas Droitwich were unable to bring a full time replacement.

Instead the club relied on Gareth Cogan, who was more use to coaching rugby at college, put the first team through it's paces in the second half of the season.

Bailey said: "We've haven't really had anyone to lead the players for some time.

"Gareth's come in and done his best, but the difference between coaching at college and at the club was huge.

"I feel if we can find someone who can organise and motivate the players we will be fine."

Bailey will also be looking to bring in some more experienced players to strengthen the squad.

Front row man Jethro Tedman, who is ruled out for the season's last two games with injury, returned to Australia and Bailey will have to find a replacement for him next season.

He said: "Jethro's position is one of a number I will want to strengthen.

"It's hard at the moment as players are all still involved with their club's until the end of the season.

"But we have a lot of battled hardened young players here who will be a lot better for this season.

"They will be a year older and more experienced and be better players for us."

Droitwich will be hoping to do the double on Saturday when they entertain Shipston-on-Stour (3pm kick off).
