CREDIT should be given where it is due. By that I refer to the recent report about the saving of the ophthalmology services in Bromsgrove, following the worries in 2002 that all eye services were likely to be moved to Kidderminster.
No mention was made of the fact that the blockbuster petition of over 16,000 signatures to save the eye department was planned and launched in Bromsgrove by Councillor Mrs Joy Bushby, who was quick to realise the danger and inconvenience for local people - especially when the visually disabled would have to make repeated journeys to Kidderminster instead of a short trip to the Princess of Wales Hospital.
At one point on a very wet and cold Saturday, helped by various local councillors, we had substantial queues of people waiting to sign up.
When all the lists had been collated Mrs Bushby, accompanied by Mr and Mrs Richards from Redditch, took the petition to the chairman of the Acute Hospital Trust.
The rest of the story is as you stated -the eye services are to be improved and retained in Bromsgrove.
