NEVER mind the Doorstep Green being developed along Primsland Way, next time you are passing take a look at the 'Doorstep Dump' being created next door!
Our local shopping centre is now rapidly becoming nothing less than a filthy litter strewn car park. The bushes and fences (the ones that remain standing that is) are simply gathering points for wind blown litter- and no-one seems to want to take responsibility for clearing it up.
On a recent walk I found the planted area alongside Primsland Way to be full of carrier bags, food wrappers and paper. It was clear this rubbish was not merely an accumulation of litter over a few days, but clearly had been lying there for weeks.
But the litter didn't end there! All along the pavements and gutters were also awash with a variety of discarded litter.
The bin outside the supermarket was also full and overflowing with rubbish that was spilling out and lying all around the front of their store. The store manager agreed they are responsible for cleaning the area immediately outside her store.
So just who is responsible for cleaning the surrounding area then?
A local councillor says the shops are responsible - but the shops say it's the council!
There was no litter before the shops arrived - so why can't they offer back just a tiny bit of their profits (created by the local community) to provide a full time street cleaner for this area (which would be putting something back into the local community). That would then also help clear up the chip papers that get taken up to half a mile away and dumped.
