Evesham 8, Solihull 55pts

EVESHAM entertained champions Solihull on Saturday in their penultimate league match.

The visitors have not only won the title but have also reached this month's National Vase Trophy final at Twickenham.

They showed their pedigree from the opening whistle and scored a couple of early tries.

Evesham, to their credit, tried on many occasions to penetrate the Solihull defence but they were met with stern resistance.

And, the only points they could muster was a penalty from Richard Taylor.

The hosts didn't help their cause by spilling the ball and allowing the speedy Solihull side to counter and score.

In the second half Solihull upped the pace but met some strong defence that couldn't prevent several more converted tries before winger Mark Williams hit back at the other end.

It was no more than their efforts deserved on an afternoon when the champions played to their full potential and showed what a handful they will be in a higher league next season.

Evesham are in league action again this weekend when travel to Coventry to face Marconi when they will be hoping to sign off with a success.

The club's annual men's dinner will take place on Friday, April 29 when the chief guest will be Leicester's chief executive and former England and British Lions hooker Peter Wheeler.
