BREDON Buzzards Under-9s returned home tired but triumphant from last weekend's mini tournament at Thornbury RUFC.

The opening match ended in a 25-0 defeat of Yatton with Ben Vincent scoring the first try within 60 seconds of the start.

The same player crossed again and Will Barrell raced in for a third before the break.

Although Yatton lacked pace, they did tighten their defence in the second half when they restricted Bredon to just two more scores courtesy of Charlie Farmer and Joe Carolan.

The boys were well aware of the challenge awaiting them second time out and were motivated by the noisy support for the physically stronger home side.

Newcomer Brandon Wain made some very impressive tackles and the Bredon defence was also ably supported by the returning Will Pettifer.

Will Dovey came closest to scoring for Bredon who suffered a setback when Ben Cooke took a hard knock to his head to end his participation as the game fizzled out to a scoreless conclusion.

After Thornbury had defeated Yatton 15-5, Buzzards went into their clash with Frampton Cotterell knowing that a comfortable win would secure a tournament victory and that's what they achieved.

Despite being a man down and having some tired legs, the boys went out determined to give it everything.

Vincent and Edward Girling both came close to opening the scoring before Joe Taylor broke clear of three tacklers to run half the length of the itch to cross just before the interval.

With victory in sight, the boys came out for the second half firing on all cylinders. Again, the ball was passed out wide and Taylor outpaced the opposition's defence to double Bre-don's lead.

Play remained tight right until a final score from Charlie Far-mer sealed a 15-0 match win and tournament triumph.
