A GROUP of stained glass enthusiasts from Cambridgeshire visited Bromsgrove yesterday (Tuesday) to see some local church windows.
The Friends of the Stained Glass Museum, based at Ely Cathedral, were due to visit All Saints', St John's and St Mary de Wyche at Wychbold.
Their guide was fellow enthusiast Roy Albutt - a retired headmaster from Pershore who was a pupil at the former Bromsgrove County High School in the 1950s when he lived at Catshill.
Roy, who is also one of the Friends, is the author of two well-researched and illustrated books: Stained Glass Windows of Bromsgrove and Redditch and his latest work The Stained Glass Windows of A J Davies of the Bromsgrove Guild.
After Bromsgrove the group was due to visit Bordesely Hall where the English Antique Glass firm produces mouth-blown glass which is much sought after by the makers of stained glass windows.
It is the only firm of its kind in Britain producing glass in this way.
The museum at Ely contains many fine examples of glass from the 13th century right through to the present day, said Roy.
"I am greatly looking forward to meeting the group," he said.
"I will tell them about Albert and Peter Lemmon, the well-known father and son stained glass window makers from Bromsgrove, as well as AJ Davies whose work is acclaimed world wide."
