SPA MP Peter Luff has slammed the distribution of an anonymous leaflet in the town that he says seriously misrepresents his views.
Conservative MP Peter Luff said: "The future of the lido is strictly for the town and district council, working with the people of Droitwich, to resolve.
"MPs and would-be MPs should not interfere in local government and pretend they have powers and influence they simply do not have. That would be to seek to deceive the electorate and to undermine local democracy."
He added: "I met SALT at a very constructive meeting a few weeks ago and I took the only steps an MP could take. I wrote to the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport and to the Chief Executive of English Heritage to establish what view they take of the possibility of listing the main lido building. So far I have received no reply.
"But what most concerns me is the highly misleading nature of the anonymous leaflet. That has juxtaposed two highly selective quotations from me, one of which, from 2001, is also highly inaccurate - it simply isn't a quote at all. In my 2001 speech I supported the restoration of the lido using private sector developers."
He said: "The district council did its best to secure private sector involvement in the lido project. I still suspect that the activities of a small group of people, whose motives were not related to the future of the lido, undermined the ability of the council to secure that private involvement, with the sad and difficult consequences we face today."
