MAY I refer to the letter from Mr Saunt of Jays Close? (Advertiser, March 23)
The grass mounds or bunds built at several places in Redditch over the last few years were put there to prevent the land behind them from being used unlawfully by itinerant caravan owners who with their vehicles, tended to leave a fair amount of rubbish behind when they left.
Rubbish which cost Redditch Council taxpayers money to remove.
In so far as that was the objective of the bunds, then in those areas they have been a success.
No-one ever pretended they would be works of art.
My view is that with the landscape section cutting back growth at the appropriate time of year, wild flower seed planting would soften the appearance of the bunds where necessary.
If the bund that seems to anger Mr Saunt so much will grow, as he claims, weeds and thistles to a height of five feet, then I am sure a careful selection of hardy wild flower seeds would survive and grow there.
If the council did what he wants and removed the Far Moor Lane bund and we then had further illegal occupation of the land by caravans and vehicles and rubbish, then I think it would be a fair bet he would be among the first to complain about that to the council.
