KIM Smyly saddled three winners when the Cotswold staged their meeting at Andoversford and, while it is too much to expect the Stanton trainer to repeat that feat, the stable is likely to enjoy further success on Sunday afternoon.
Willie the Kid has run some good races this season and just needs to improve a fraction to have a good chance of landing the five-six-seven-year-old Maiden at the Cotswold Vale Farmers meeting at Andoversford on Sunday for the Dowty family.
Double Deal was disappointing at Garnons, while Lost in the Snow has failed to reproduce his early season form.
Jelly O'Brien's Naunton stable has had a quiet few weeks but they have done well in this type of company and Fergals Find is expected to improve their record in this type of event.
The Smyly and O'Brien camps could be in opposition again in the Mixed Open with Dunston Bill and Paymaster.
Dunston Bill was one of Smyly's hat trick last month but the horse gave Alex Puddy no chance of retaining his seat at Paxford, but that has been the only blip on an otherwise outstanding season.
Benefited
Paymaster blew up at Mollington but will have benefited from that run and the O'Brien stable could use this race as a stepping stone towards the Dudley Cup which Paymaster won back in 2003.
Caught at Dawn's connections were hoping to go to Cheltenham earlier in the season but things didn't work out as planned, while another rival Mighty Montefalco made hacks of the opposition at Garthorpe last Saturday.
Coffee Morning represents the Smyly yard in the Rest-ricted. Palmers Peak was still going well for Belinda Kei-ghley at Upton-on-Severn and he won at Kingston Blount earlier in the season, a course, which in some ways is not too dissimilar to Ando-versford in character.
Others to note in this contest include Croome Maiden winner Rohan, Hornbill and Willoughby Flyer.
Martin Keighley's Cond-icote stable has a representative n the closing Maiden. Bob Nickel was unplaced at Upton and on that running should not get the better of the Smyly representative Chateau Burf who finished a close third in the same race.
Chateau Burf also finished second at the last meeting, although he would not have stood a chance if Spring Dawn had stood up, because John Phillip's ten-year-old had the race in his pocket when departing at the third from home.
Unfortunately, he is such an in and out performer that you cannot guarantee he will repeat that form.
Masitat, Mental Picture and Sharp Hand have to come into contention, as does Polar Summit. He finished second to Parahandy at the Cotswold meeting but blotted his copybook when pulled up at Paxford.
This weekend's first race will be under starter's orders at 2pm.
