A PARISH council chairman is outraged after vandals smashed his car windscreen with stones - just minutes after councillors discussed plans for a £50,000 playground to be built for youngsters in the area.
St Peter's Parish Council chairman Ross McFarlane's car was damaged in a "vicious attack" in Abbotsbury Court , Worcester, after a parish council meeting.
"If somebody had come out of the shop they would have got a serious injury," he said.
"It's unfortunate that we've spent a lot of time and effort trying to do the best for the youth of the community and all it takes is one person to put it into disrepute again."
Monday night's incident happened just days after it was announced that the play area, near the Tesco store will receive a face-lift, for which the parish council has contributed £20,000.
The windows of the One Stop Shop in Abbotsbury Court were also damaged.
A spate of incidents has left staff feeling unsafe and one has threatened to hand in his notice if a security guard is not employed.
Employee Lewys Jones said: "We've had them swearing and intimidating customers most nights, especially on Friday and Saturday."
The 21-year-old said the incident started after young troublemakers kept coming into the shop from about 9.45pm.
After the youngsters were repeatedly asked to leave and disappeared when the police were called, he was advised to lock up.
After doing so he and a colleague heard banging on the window, returning to finds piles of stones outside and the windows cracked.
Last week, the shop was targeted again by vandals, who smashed another window.
The assistant manager at the store, Julia Alldridge said: "It is a problem and something needs to be done about it."
