TRAVELLERS who moved onto a disused old hospital site have been issued with a legal notice to leave.

On Tuesday evening, six families of travellers moved onto the Ronkswood Infirmary site on Newtown Road.

It is owned by the development company Robert Hitchins Property.

A spokesman for the company said legal proceedings had been issued to travellers to leave the land within seven days.

But the firm was hopeful they would be gone before the deadline.

The travellers told a solicitor working on behalf of the firm they would be gone by the weekend.

"We've started legal proceedings just in case," said the spokesman.

The company has plans to build light industrial premises, offices and houses.
