ANOTHER band is to rock Wyre Forest in aid of our appeal.

Long-standing soul group, Blind Lemon, will play Gilt Edge Social Club in Kidderminster in June. They are the latest band to take to the stage for Operation Covert.

Later this month, popular glam tribute, Ballroom Glitz, will play the Chain Wire Club in Kidderminster while country singer, Keith Manifold, entertained crowds at Astley and Dunley Village Hall in Stourport in March.

Organiser of the June 17 Blind Lemon gig, Nick Howles, told the Shuttle/Times & News he decided to put together the show after the band played at his cousin's wedding last year.

He explained: "I thought getting the band to play would be an ideal opportunity to raise money for the appeal. I have been involved in Scouting since I was a kid and I have had plenty of great times up at Rhydd Covert, camping."

The event, at the Zortech Avenue club, could raise up to £1,000 for Operation Covert, he said.

Blind Lemon guitarist, Nick McCarthy, said: "We have been established now, in the current line-up, for nearly 12 years and so, over those years, we have always tried to help local causes because we are predominately local lads. When I was younger, I was in the Cubs and the Scouts and we went on a camp to Rhydd Covert."

The Ballroom Glitz show takes place on Friday, April 29 and tickets are available from the Shuttle/Times & News offices in Blackwell Street.
