Tenbury United 0, Stafford 4

TENBURY bowed out of the West Midland League Division 1 Cup when Stafford gave them a lesson in how to convert chances at Palmer's Meadow on Saturday.

The home side enjoyed plenty of possession and were able to get into dangerous positions, but a mixture of good goalkeeping and wayward finishing left the visitors as comfortable winners in spite of creating less opportunities.

Tenbury looked to be in control during the first quarter of the game but were then rocked back as the visitors struck from two set pieces to open up a clear advantage at the interval.

Midway through the half they forced a corner and when the ball was floated over Byron Davies went up to punch clear but a forward was able to get his head to the ball and direct it goal-wards to open the scoring.

Ten minutes before the break they added a second when they got in a free header from a free kick.

Tenbury were forced to push forward in the second half but their overall performance was sacrificed as they lost their shape which left gaping holes in their defence.

They did create chances however, Karl Pearson was twice denied by some brave keeping in one-on-one situations.

Paul Higgins struck the post with a free kick and they also had a penalty appeal turned away.

Stafford sealed the tie when they caught the home defence out of position twice in five minutes. On both occasions a midfield player burst through, first to go round the keeper and score and then win a penalty when Davies clattered him to the ground.

This weekend United return to league action when they entertain Wyrley Rangers at Palmer's Meadow.
