PROPOSALS to turn a busy road in Worcester into a dual carriageway have been opposed by parish councillors.
St Peter's Parish Council agree that something needs to be done to relieve congestion along Broomhall Way and Crookbarrow Way in St Peter's, but believe that making this southern link road into a dual carriageway would be a mistake.
At a meeting on Monday night Paul Thorlby, planning said: "We support in principle measures to reduce congestion but I think the proposal to make a dual carriageway would be a serious detriment to the community."
The council believes such a development would have a negative impact on the adjacent residential areas, such as noise pollution.
The idea is one of the options contained in the Worcestershire Local Transport Plan two, 2006 to 2011.
An alternative would be the construction of a new road to link the southern bypass to the A449 to the north of the city, providing an additional river crossing.
