STUART Watkiss has insisted his players should have no time for nerves as they prepare to enter the "last-chance saloon" tomorrow.

Kidderminster Harriers would effectively go three wins behind in the relegation race should they lose to Bury while Rushden and Diamonds win at Bristol Rovers.

But boss Watkiss is determined to achieve the reverse, with the help of Rovers, which would catapult Harriers to within a victory of their arch rivals with four fixtures left.

And he is intending to add an extra attacking dimension to his line-up without resorting to a "kamikaze" approach against Bury who are only sixth-from-bottom.

Harriers showed plenty of promise in a six-match unbeaten run but have since slumped to two crucial defeats.

Last weekend's 3-0 collapse at Wycombe Wanderers really rocked hopes of Harriers avoiding a return back to the Conference after five years.

And Watkiss admitted: "The players should now be past the nervous stage because we are in the last-chance saloon and we just need to have a right go at Bury.

"By the end of the match, Aggborough could be full of hope or we could be as good as down.

"I know it's doom and gloom at the moment but, equally, if we have a good day and Rushden a bad day we are back in it so it's wrong to write us off too early.

"I'm looking for a bit of character. We are going to be positive and more offensive but we're not going to be kamikaze."

Left-back Billy Jones and midfielder Simon Russell are in with a strong chance of replacing skipper Wayne Hatswell and Bertrand Cozic in the first 11, while striker Blair Sturrock may well be recalled.

But the injury situation is hitting Harriers hard with Wednesday's reserve win over Stafford Rangers doing Watkiss few favours.

Defender Reuben Hazell, who could have been drafted in for his debut at right-back tomorrow, suffered more knee problems and looks set to be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Ian Foster's comeback from a knee injury faltered too and Iyseden Christie is out after needing stitches in his backside.

But fellow forwards Gary Birch (hamstring) and Mark Rawle (Achilles) should be declared fit.

Bury have lost just once in the last six games, including winning 1-0 at promotion hopefuls Yeovil last month and going close to beating Rochdale in a 0-0 draw last weekend.

Watkiss added: "Bury have picked up of late. I'm sure Graham Barrow will have them fired up and they have good professionals in the team, like David Flitcroft, who are not just going to cruise through a game.

"But if we can play like we did against the likes of Notts County, Darlington and Cheltenham, then we can definitely get the result.

"We need the fans to turn out. I realise that around 400 were short-changed at Wycombe with our performance. We need them to stick with us but we know we have a responsibility to give them something back."
