WHAT a busy week in the world of news. The Pope dies, the Prince of Wales is getting wed, and just about the worst kept secret in the world... Ken and Deirdre will get married tonight, sorry no I meant the election had been called for 5th May.
Now I work in the so-called media but I do get a little fed up sometimes at the many ways to be found to cover a story.
Don't get me wrong I am a bit of a news junkie but I was listening to a certain Radio station recently, not BBC Hereford and Worcester of course, as I was out of the area, and the bloke they had called as a so-called expert on the subject, clearly knew less about it than me!
One story that got a lot of coverage last weekend was the Newcastle United rumpus when Messrs Dyer and Bowyer got sent off for fighting with each other.
This is not the first time it has happened, indeed there was one famous occasion in a local league game when a player and his Dad got sent off while playing for the same team... honest.
Sadly, this was the only talking point of the game against Aston Villa, it overshadowed what was a fine win for Villa away from home.
But my worry is that some of the youngsters who see these incidents on television than go out in their Sunday games and want to do the same. If the superstars are doing it this week, it will be on the local parks next week.
I was at Hereford United this week for the game against Carlisle, and I hadn't been for a while so it was good to catch up with some old chums.
It's strange but an old mate of mine used to stand on the same barrier at Edgar Street, week in week out, rain and shine he would be there.
So I though I would have a wonder round to se if he was there... and he was. I reckon he'd been standing on that spot for over 30 years to my knowledge.
And I could go to St George's Lane or indeed Sixways and see people who had been watching from the same spot for years... although of course Sixways is a much newer ground so not so many habit forming supporters.
It's the same in some pubs, where a lot of regulars like their own little seats. I used to walk in the Old Crown at Martley and would be able to tell you who was sat where... most of the time anyway.
I well recall an old boy who used to get in the Greyhound in Worcester.
He came in one night and someone was sat in his seat, so he asked them to move. The non-local said he would not move as he was entitled to sit where he wanted.
When our stranger went out the local walked over and poured his pint in the chair. "Sit there now yer *******" was his riposte.
Off to Newcastle on Sunday following the Warriors, hope I don't meet Bowyer and Co!
