HOW hypocritical of D E Margrett to moralise by using another's quotation to comment on the achievement of our forces (Letters, Monday, April 4).

It is as if he is unaware that millions of formerly oppressed people are eternally grateful that young people did answer the call to arms. There are those of us who may once have thought along such lines and opted for duty of a non-combatant nature.

Events proved the fallacy of such thinking and left us with a sense of guilt at our failure to respond adequately to the evil that confronted us. Messrs Margrett and F L Jones have no reason to lament doing their duty.

JOHN HINTON,

Worcester.
