THE Malvern U9 squad have been working hard all season to come to terms with the rigors of contact rugby but try as they might, the youngsters have not been able to translate their efforts into match-day wins.
MALVERN U9S 25pts, BROMYARD U9S 0
Last weekend, all their hard work was rewarded as the squad members began to play together as a team, which earned them two excellent victories against the U9s from Bromyard and Ledbury.
In their first match Malvern worked-hard, keeping Bromyard penned up in their own half thanks to organised defence and good tackling.
This gave Malvern the platform to attack and with good passing and determined running lines, the Malvern youngsters scored five unanswered tries.
MALVERN U9S 20pts,
LEDBURY U9S 5pts
IN their second match, Malvern played Ledbury who were a more organised and physically stronger side than Bromyard.
In the first half, Malvern scored the first try but then Ledbury came back minutes later with a fine team try to level the scores. Malvern rallied and, working as a team, they managed to restrict the options for Ledbury with some excellent tackling and sublime rucking skills. As a result, Malvern scored three more tries, with a late surge by Ledbury for a consolation try, snuffed out by Malvern's inspired tackling and rucking skills.
Tries were scored by Max Hill, Charlie Sprang, Tom Jakeman and Marullo Cossalli-Francis and if the squad can repeat the same form at the Old Leamingtonians rugby festival next weekend, a trophy could be coming their way.
