TOWN Reserves played Wyrley Rangers last Tuesday evening in dreadful conditions, with driving rain falling on an already waterlogged pitch.

MALVERN TOWN RES 0, WYRLEY RANGERS 1

Wyrley attacked from the first whistle and actually had the ball in the back of the net after two minutes, but this was ruled out for a foul on goalkeeper Adrian Whittal-Williams.

Town, who were already depleted with injuries, were further hit when the referee showed Mark Goodman the red card for an expletive when the game was only four minutes old.

Wyrley took the lead when their right-winger crossed to Liam Brookes, whose first effort was blocked by Whittal-Williams, but he drove home a second unstoppable shot.

With numerical supremacy, Wyrley dominated the match and were unlucky when Sean Hughes hit the crossbar with a cracking shot. Town dug deep into their reserves and showed a lot of pride in a workmanlike performance to restrict further damage.

Town were grateful to Dave Cannon, Mike Cole and youth player James Rimell for stepping in at the last minute. Manager Paul Pallett was most concerned with the injuries to James Brighton and Ollie Endacott with several league and cup games to come.
