CONFIDENT Worcester Wolves cannot wait to get stuck into City of Sheffield Arrows in the biggest game in the club's history tonight (7pm).

The two sides clash in the first leg of their English Basketball League Division One play-off semi-final showdown at University College Worcester with the second leg next Saturday.

Despite losing both league matches against the runaway Division One winners and National Trophy champions, Wolves boast the best record against Sheffield, who lost just once in 22 games. Wolves were beaten 98-89 at Sheffield and 78-77 in the return at UCW.

There is a genuine belief Wolves can emerge victorious and reach the final at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena at the end of the month.

"On both occasions we didn't play anyway near our best," said Wolves director of basketball Mick Donovan. "Sheffield haven't seen the best of Worcester Wolves whereas I think we have seen the best of Sheffield. We sense an upset."

Donovan knows a fully-fit team, including last week's top scorer Rick Solvason, will have to be firing on all cylinders to progress.

He said: "I really believe that if everybody plays well we can definitely get through and I think Sheffield know that and they will be anxious."

Five years ago, Wolves drew up plans to reach the summit of the sport in England, both at University and club level, and year on year success since has brought them to this point.

"Because we are moving forward, it's our biggest game," Donovan added. "Our aim has always been to be a major force in England Basketball and this is a major step towards achieving that.

"We have already proved we are the best University in England. Now we have to show we are the best club."

Since losing to Solent Stars in January, Wolves have put together eight wins from 10 games to propel them to a top four finish, but they want to improve on that.

Donovan added: "We said then our aim was the top four and the players have shown a fantastic attitude in the last few months and lo and behold we are in the semi-final.

"Now we have got to take it a step further."
