WORCESTER racecourse is gearing up for its best start to a season for several years.

Weather over the winter months has been kind to the Pitchcroft surface, leaving it in excellent condition for tomorrow's first meeting of the season.

Seven races are scheduled on the card between 2pm and 5pm, with 128 horses declared to run at Worcester's first Sunday meeting in the five years since Arena Leisure took over ownership of the course.

Course official Jenny Cheshire said: "The ground is in excellent condition and probably the best for some time at the start of a Worcester season due to the fact the course has not flooded."

Good weather conditions are forecaste, which organisers hope will lead to a bumper crowd.

Apart from racing, the meeting has a family fun day, featuring a climbing wall and bouncy castle.

Enclosure entry is £6 for the centre course, £11 for Tattersalls and £16 for club members. Accompanied children under 16 go free in all areas.

Meanwhile, county point-to-point enthusiasts have a double-header this weekend with the Monmouthshire Hunt meeting today followed by the Ludlow Hunt fixture tomorrow.

The Monmouthshire fixture at Llanvapley features a six-race card starting at 2pm.

Tomorrow, the Ludlow Hunt meeting at Bitterely has a seven-race card starting at 1pm start.
