A YARN all about smocks will be told next week.

Embroidery expert Angela Thompson will deliver the specially illustrated talk at Worcestershire County Museum at Hartlebury Castle, near Kidderminster, on Tuesday night.

The grandmother inherited three smocks made by the "last lady smock-maker of Bewdley" around the turn of the 20th Century. These will be on show and will accompany a slide show and talk.

Mrs Thompson's grandmother ordered the smocks for herself, her husband, and her son, and they have been kept in the family ever since.

Despite their practicality, some smocks were saved for "Sunday best", and during the Victorian period, they became more elaborately patterned.

The Museum Society meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 12, at 7.30pm, and costs £1 for members and £3 for visitors to cover the cost of light refreshments.
