VILLAGES are being reminded that if they want to enter this year's Village of the Year competitions in Herefordshire or Worcestershire, they need to act fast as entries close on Friday, April 29.
Information went out to villages across the two counties during January, and competition organiser Community First is urging communities to be pro-active.
"The entry process is very easy - there is just a simple community profile for each village to fill in and return to Community First," said spokesperson Nina Owen. "People can download it from our website, www.communityhw.org.uk
"Anyone can fill it in, provided it is counter-signed by a village committee such as the village hall or parish council."
The competitions, sponsored by gas supplier, Calor - judge communities on six aspects of village life.
The categories are Building Community Life, Business, Young People, Older People, the Environment and Information Communication Technology.
Later in the year, one village from each county will have the chance to follow Longtown, Herefordshire, in 2004 or Martley, Worcestershire, in 2003, in gaining recognition at national level in the prestigious English Village of the Year competition.
The event has a prize fund of more than £36,000.
