INFORMATION on groundbreaking new laws to improve working relationships between employers and employees has been dropping through letterboxes in Worcestershire.

The guide - New laws for informing and consulting your employees - provides a brief summary of legislation which came into force last week.

This gives employees the right to be informed and consulted on a regular basis about issues in the business they work for.

The onus is on employees to ask for this right, but if at least 10 per cent of the workforce request it, employers are legally obliged to work with them to draw up an agreement on how information and consultation will take place in their organisation.

"The new legislation complements existing good practice and will play an important part in improving relations in larger organisations," said Paddy Lillis, deputy general secretary of USDAW.

"Companies with the most effective people management, flexible and negotiated working practices and a clear set of objectives are the most prosperous.

"When staff feel part of the team, morale is high and everyone gives their best."
