Bretforton Ladies II 5,
Ross-on-Wye 1
A FIVE-GOAL show on Sunday secured the Severn League championship for a determined Bretforton outfit.
Needing maximum points to overhaul Dursley at the summit, Julie Hall gave the home side a great start to the rearranged match when she netted the opener.
However, the lead was shortlived as Ross levelled following a short corner that brought an initial stop from Fiona Baldelli but she was helpless to prevent the rebound entering the goal.
Vociferous support from the sidelines spurred on the title chasers and Shirley Aubrey fired in a tremendous strike that left the goalkeeper helpless and Bretforton 2-1 ahead.
Possession again favoured the hosts after the break and they made it count when Sue Sheppard netted a third goal.
That followed a series of missed chances that followed fine work from Michaela and Bernie Amphlett and Marion Icke down the flanks.
Stand-in sweeper Lesley McKinnon helped repel any Ross threats, while Jude Will-iams also battled well up and down the pitch.
It was Kate Williams who set the celebrations in motion with a fourth goal after Aubrey's fine run and it was left to Hall to cap a five-star show when making it 5-1 after player of the match Bernie Amphlett's smashing drive had bounced off a post.
While the players have earned their success on the pitch, the success also stems from the help of fitness coach Marcus Jordan and support of referee Bridget Clapham.
