AN application to build a factory near Evesham, which has been opposed by nearly 70 people, will be considered tomorrow.

Kanes Foods has applied to build a new salad factory, with office space, at its Middle Littleton site.

There have been 67 letters of objection to the Cleeve Road development and 21 letters of support.

Since 1998, the company, which also occupies a site at Evesham's Vale Park, has expanded and the existing factory has reached its capacity.

The application says that more modern equipment and a larger building are required to cope with future growth.

Supporters argue that if the application were given the green light, it would benefit the community by increasing employment opportunities and contracts with local suppliers.

One letter of objection complained that the factory already dominated life in the village.

Another read: "The proposed additional 300 jobs to be created will be a fraction of the true figure."

Some fear that the development would increase traffic flow to the site by 350 per cent, cause noise pollution and reduce road safety.

Others argue that nearby land floods due to the car park at the factory and fear this problem will become worse if the site is allowed to expand.

The application will be considered by Wychavon District Council's development control committee tomorrow.
