Redditch United 3
Southport 2
THE REDS knocked Southport off the Natiowide North's top spot in a super second half comeback.
The cream of the league's goalscorers were on parade at the Valley on Saturday as top scorer Terry Fearns lined up against second placed stromin' Norman Sylla - both vying for the golden boot come the end of the season.
However after a dismal first half where both teams struggled to find the last third, the visitors eventually broke the deadlock on 53 minutes.
Southport's Steve Daly headed a Sam McNutt corner past a stranded Dave Clarke who was making his debut in the Redditch goal.
Seven minutes later and Southport went further ahead as golden boot hopeful Fearns rounded keeper Clarke and slotted home.
Reds winger Simon Hollis got his team back on the comeback trail heading home an Asa Charlton freekick with 25 minutes to go.
Hollis was again called into action when a 30-yard free kick went the way of the Reds on 77 minutes. And the Reds wideman made no mistake levelling the scores.
United's top scorer Norman Sylla grabbed the headlines with his 89th minute winner as his half volley arrived in the top corner to send the Reds fans into raptures and send the Southport fans home early.
