THE provision of new housing in Redditch proved to be a hot topic during a recent public consultation.
Residents were given the chance to give their opinions on the future of the borough during the second period of public consultation for Local Plan number 3.
The Local Plan outlines the development strategy for the town and surrounding areas until 2011.
During the consultation, entitled "Where's your Pot of Gold?", 289 representations were made to Redditch Council by residents and these have now been considered by planning officers.
Out of these, 94 (32 per cent) were in support of the Local Plan, 190 (66 per cent) were objections and five (two per cent) supported the proposals in principle but suggested further changes.
The issue of locating new housing provision in the borough attracted a number of comments and suggestions.
Other matters which received responses included the management of the natural environment, the provision of land to meet recreational needs and the use of transport within the borough.
It was given the thumbs-up at the executive committee last Tuesday and will be considered by full council on April 18.
A Planning Inspector, who is independent of the council, will consider all the representations made, resolve any outstanding issues and make any necessary changes.
This process will begin on July 5 and the findings of this inspection will be set out in a report which is binding for the council.
Local Plan number 3 is due to be formally adopted by the council in June 2006 and will guide the use of land and physical change until 2011.
