Droitwich 32 Shipston-on-Stour 22

West Midlands Division Three West (South)

CAPTAIN Matt Blackmore dedicated Saturday's rare victory to Droitwich's long suffering followers.

After watching their side suffer a nine match losing run, which saw them finally relegated last week, Blackmore said he was eager to give something back to the fans.

He said: "The fans deserved to see us win.

"They've had to see us lose so often that the players felt we should do our best to give them something to cheer about."

Droitwich certainly ended their league home fixtures in style by doing the double over Shipston.

The win gave Droitwich four points and the players must be ruing the two points deducted earlier in the season and the abandoned game against Ledbury which they were winning.

Centre Andy Carter steadied the home team's nerves by powering over for a try, converted by Blackmore.

Spa's opponents hit back with two tries (one converted) to lead the home side 12-7 at half time.

However, the captain edged his side ahead with two penalties.

Nick Godfrey then touched down and Blackmore converted to put Spa in charge.

With the confidence returning Spa began to push Shipston back and Carter added his second try.

Steve Pope completed the scoring when he powered over for a try, which the captain converted.

Blackmore said: "The mood around the squad is very upbeat and everybody is looking forward to next season.

"We are already planning and the lads want to make up for what has happened this season."

Droitwich take on Dudley Kingswinford in a friendly on Saturday, before ending their ill-fated campaign away at Old Yardleians in the following week.
