Marconi 25pts, Evesham 10
EVESHAM finished off a disappointing league campaign in similar fashion last Saturday when they were lost on their visit to Coventry.
Looking to end the season on a high, the Avon Street side made hard yards from the kick-off and found themselves deep in the Marconi half. Simon Thwaites, Luke Matthews and Lloyd Jiles were in the thick of the action but poor decision making allowed the hosts to clear their lines.
Marconi then used the strong wind to their advantage and bombarded the Evesham line with some high kicks.
After turning over possession, the Marconi winger scored an unconverted try in the corner.
A good individual score almost instantly gave Marconi a healthy lead that they added to with a drop goal to give them 15-0 advantage.
Evesham now started to get their game together and, after good pressure, fly-half Chris Evis raced in for a score from the halfway line. Ricky Taylor added the difficult conversion.
Stern words were said at half-time and Evesham came out all guns blazing and spent long periods in the opposition half.
Dave Scott and Ricky Martin were starting to play prominent roles in the pack and Evesham almost got the score they were looking for but a crucial dropped pass blew the opportunity.
The only points they could manage came from a converted penalty from Taylor.
With Evesham continually chasing the game they were bound to leave gaps in their defences and Marconi took full advantage to add two more tries.
The losers are in friendly action this weekend when they travel to play Old Silhillians.
