Marion greeted us, and after singing Jerusalem, our group co-ordinator Monica Carden took charge, inviting each of the visiting WI groups, plus our own, to share with us a little of the events and activities of their previous year.
Our visitors came from Bentley Pauncefoot, Feckenham, Stoke Prior, Crabs Cross and Hunt End, Ipsley, and Kingston and Dormston.
Following the WI group news, we enjoyed refreshments, including a selection of quiche, salads, rice dishes, and a variety of delicious sweets, followed by tea and coffee.
Our entertainer for the evening, Mike Ledbury, had come to tell us Confessions of a Morris Dancer. Mike, dressed very smartly, spoke a little of his childhood and youth, and of his desire to become a Morris Man.
He demonstrated some of the steps, inviting all to join in, told us how to hold the hankerchiefs and showed how to fasten the leather and ribboned bells below the knee, asking for help from an interested and amused audience.
He spoke of the different groups with whom he has danced, and played the melonium, and of their customs. The evening came to a close with the judging of a decorated straw hat. The winner was our secretary Greta.
