REGARDING "Handy hints for drivers" (Wednesday, March 23) this letter was excellent. However, I would like to add a little to it.
I failed my first driving test for "not making normal progress". The examiner elaborated "not maintaining the speed limit of the road".
Oh, what bliss if today's road users would just maintain the applicable speed limit! Driving at 30mph is hard in modern vehicles, but I always try to keep to 30mph where it is imposed and I expect to drive at 40, 50 and 60mph when these are the limits imposed.
What is even more frustrating is when people (usually in relatively new, powerful cars) insist on driving between 30 and 40mph in the national speed limit area, then speed up when they get to the 30mph area!
I firmly believe that more accidents are caused by people who drive too slowly than by people who drive up to 5mph over the limit.
When will something be done about drivers who drive too slowly and cause an obstruction?
LYN SHEFFIELD,
Pershore.
