Our guest speaker was Clive Crump, from Droitwich, who had brought a selection of his impressive photographs depicting Droitwich in former times. Several of us recognised buildings, shops and houses once part of everyday life in the town and now no longer there. Photographs of famous landmarks that are now gone forever confirmed how elegant this historic spa town used to be.
The latest soon to be lost is the outdoor lido, to join the winter gardens, St Andrew's Brine Baths, the Worcestershire Hotel, to name but a few.
Clive obviously has fond memories of Droitwich's past glories and his photographic record is a fine tribute to the huge amount of time and research he had dedicated to a remembrance of a well-loved town. Elizabeth Mitchell gave a vote of thanks to Clive for this opportunity to see so many reminders of Droitwich's historic past.
It is hoped to organise an outing on Wednesday, May 18, in the Wichenford area to attend the Annual Gathering of Church Fellowships, which is being hosted by Wichenford Women's Fellowship.
We meet this month on Thursday, April 21, at 7.30pm in The Poplars. Please note that this is the third Thursday of the month, not our usual fourth Thursday.
