FERNHILL Heath villagers are inviting visitors to step back in time to the 1940s with a display in the Memorial Hall to commemorate the end of the Second World War.

The event, on April 23, will feature local memorabilia amid the flags and bunting, and organisers hope it will stir memories and encourage people to share their own experiences of the time.

Anyone who lived through the war, or has a story about someone who did, is invited to go along to the hall, on the A38 between Droitwich and Worcester, between 2 and 4pm.

It is supported by the BBC People's War project and all storytellers will have the chance to add their own memories to this valuable internet archive.

A spokeswoman for the event said: "There will be music and refreshments available and plenty of time to share memories of the wartime years.

There is no entry charge and even if you haven't a story of your own there will be plenty to learn."

In the evening, there will be a wartime fundraiser, featuring a tasty dinner made 'on the ration', live music, dancing and anecdotes. All proceeds go towards the Martin Hussingtree Church Building Fund.

Sue Waugh, of Martin Hussingtree, has already committed some of her family's memories to the internet archive and will be at the Memorial Hall on the day to share her stories with others.
