CHRIS Jones is still waiting for his season to get off the ground in the British Superbike 125cc Championships, after he failed to finish the second round at Thruxton on Sunday.
The gifted Droitwich rider, aged 14, suffered a repeat of the first round at Brands Hatch when he was unable to finish the race.
For the second race in a row the Droitwich High School pupil seemed on course for points and a podium finish only for bad fortune to leave him frustrated.
He said: "I'm really annoyed with myself because I was so close to the finish line.
"The only thing that I can take away from Thruxton is the fact that my performance throughout the rest of the race was good and I've gained some more experience at a new circuit.
"Hopefully I can turn things around at Mallory Park in two weeks time."
Jones had started the second round impressively, racing into the lead on his Honda RS125 at the start.
However, a false start forced the race to begin again.
Despite the setback Jones raced into second, but dropped a place by the second lap.
However, he managed to hold onto his podium place until the final lap.
With the finishing line nearing the Droitwich rider lost control of his bike and crashed off.
Despite the race's final positions being taken from the start of the last lap, Jones did not make it back to the paddock in time to confirm where he was.
