WALKWOOD Middle School pupils have been working on postcards with a difference - featuring snapshots of sound instead of pictures.
They are taking part in the Sonic Postcards programme, which uses the environment as inspiration for creative arts and ICT activities.
Funded by the National Endowment of Science Technology and the Arts and run by sound and technology organisation Sonic Arts Network, the project aims to explore and compare the local sound environments of young people across the UK.
Walkwood students have been exploring their "soundscape" by creating journals and maps from sounds they hear around them in their everyday environments.
They make recordings and using digital music technology on computers, pupils became sound designers, making their own sonic postcards.
The project encourages schools to exchange the completed MP3 postcards with other schools via broadband internet connections.
Postcards are then uploaded onto the Sonic Postcards website at www.sonicpostcards.org
