BELINDA Keighley rode her fourth winner of the season and the first double of her career following victories for Macy in the Members and Palmers Peak in the Restricted during Sunday afternoon's Cotswold Vale Farmers Point-to-Point meeting at Andoversford.
Macy finished behind Tirley Gale last year but had the edge on fitness last weekend and was given the sort of ride that was going to find out any chinks in his rivals armour.
The Condicote rider went on to complete a double on Joe Stainer's Palmer Peak. An excited Keighley admitted afterwards that "style went out of the window" when they were challenged by Novel Idea at the last, but her mount responded well to her urgings and found another gear when her rival ranged alongside.
Kim Smyly is enjoying a great season and the Stanton trainer saddled her ninth and tenth winners of the campaign with victories for Dunston Bill in the Mixed Open and Chateau Burf in the Eight-year-old and upward Maiden.
Dunston Bill got back onto the winning track with an emphatic win. Mydante looked a big danger at the bottom of the hill but he was unable to sustain that effort as they met the rising ground and this left Taddington based owner/rider Alex Puddy to guide the winner to an easy victory over the final two fences.
Gentle Rivage used to be in training with Nigel Twiston-Davies at Naunton but has spent several years on the sidelines due to a succession of injuries so he subsequently made the short journey down the road to Jelly O'Brien's yard in the same village.
The horse was placed in the Sun Alliance Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival back in 2000 and, on the basis of Sunday's performance, still retains a fair degree of ability.
He ran his rivals into the ground by recording the fastest time of the day in the Novice Riders Race where he was partnered by 18-year-old David England who celebrated his first Point-to-Point success.
