GARDENING CLUB: Daffodil, tulip and hellebore classes were strongly entered in the spring show and the class for the jug of spring flowers was a spectacular sight showing both colour and variety.

The club thanked judges Mrs Ingles and Mr Lloyd for viewing the 26 classes. Class winners included Mary Alderson, Peggy Atherton, Pam Cross and Alan Kitchen. Thanks also went to Thelma Hunt, the show secretary, who together with Ann Wall, Lisa Joliffe and Ena Thompson organised the event.

A bright cheerful backdrop to the show was created by paintings from the children of Mickleton School, giving their interpretation of Scenes of Spring for the art competition. Local artist Peggy Atherton, who awarded prizes to the class winners. There were three place winners and a highly commended in each class and the firsts are Georgina Righton (class 4), Rebecca Nevin (class 3), Toby Coldicott (class 2), Harriet Smith (class 1).

The show ended with a presentation to Ann Wall, the show overall points winner, in second place was Gay Rochfort, last year's winner, and the third place had a three way tie.
