HARRIERS Trust FC could hold their heads high after a brave defeat to a strong Bretforton Sports OB side in the Sunday Minor Cup final at Evesham United's Common Road ground.
Despite taking an early lead through Marc Vaughan, the Kidderminster League outfit suffered a 3-1 loss with Bretforton also missing a penalty.
Joint boss Dave Williams said: "It was a good performance and a brilliant crowd so the lads have done really well, but they were just a bit too strong for us."
It left Harriers to concentrate their attention on the Sunday Division Three title race where they lead this Sunday's opponents Gornal Five Ways by a point with four games in hand.
Their involvement in the Fire Shield came to an end when they were on the receiving end of a crushing 16-2 defeat to division one outfit Mostyn Rangers last week after resting most of their key players. It completed a successful period for Mostyn who also thumped rivals Areley Kings 8-0 in their league derby match.
KS Athletic lifted the Saturday Minor Cup with a 4-0 victory over Littleton Reserves.
Sunday Division One's Wolverley Athletic were on form, hammering bottom side Longlands 10-0. The Brintons team which plays in Sunday Premier enjoyed a 10-1 victory over Wordsley AFC at the weekend, and their Saturday Premier team beat Kings Heath Old Boys 9-0 in a mid-week fixture.
Bewdley Town have reached the final of the Evesham Sunday Minor Cup, the Sunday Division Two side winning 4-1 at Cross Keys.
In women's football, Burlish Olympic Ladies are within 90 minutes of defending their Hospital Cup title after progressing to the final thanks to a thrilling penalty shootout winner over Headless Cross.
With the scores level at 1-1 after extra time following Debbie Prescott's late equaliser, Burlish were calm and clinical from the spot with Prescott, Mary Calder, Naomi Datson and Kate Bailey all finding the target, while Cross missed two of their kicks. Jill Turner was player of the match.
Burlish hit the Wyvern Cup trail with another semi-final, away at Worcester City on Sunday.
A Kirsty Roberts hat-trick and two goals from Lisa Stokes and Kirsty Sheppard helped Kidderminster Harriers Ladies Reserves to a 7-1 victory over Studley United Reserves.
Harriers' next game is away at Walsall this evening.
