Cleobury Mortimer's disappointing last day 19-15 defeat at Redditch could not detract from a wonderful promotion season in North Midlands South One.
With Stourbridge Lions running out emphatic 60-0 winners over Handsworth, they are crowned champions with Cleobury settling for second place.
Despite prolific Paul Hulland giving them a 5-0 interval lead with his 28th try of the season, Cleobury failed to reach the heights they have set all season.
The hosts replied with a converted try after the break which increased confidence in the Redditch ranks, although a Julian Harding penalty soon put Cleobury back on top at 8-7.
The lead changed hands again when Redditch survived a sustained period of Cleobory pressure to break away and score another try to go 12-8 ahead.
As the match entered its final stages a penalty kick to the corner gave Cleobury a lineout which was safely caught and driven to the lineout where Matthew Barnsley dived over for a try converted by Harding.
But with the Mortimer men hoping to hold on for a 15-12 victory they failed to keep it tight and watched as their miserable afternoon was completed by a last gaps converted try from the hosts.
The seconds team suffered a comprehensive 41-5 defeat to Handsworth with Nick Griffiths scoring their consolation try.
