TWO nights of jazz next week will be delighting fans of traditional and modern masters at Worcester's Huntingdon Hall.

Acker Bilk is bringing his Paramount Jazz Band to town on Saturday, while on Thursday, top musicians will be recreating the life Dave Brubeck, who inspired a new generation.

Acker Bilk is best known for the hit Strangers on the Shore, and he brings with him a massive 49 years of touring experience.

Huntingdon Hall spokesman Curtis Fulcher said: "Acker still considers himself a jazzer above all else and the great master of the clarinet has to be heard to be believed."

On Thursday, April 21, Roger Munns (piano), Peter Cook (alto saxophone), Peter Hughes (double bass) and Martin Hart (drums) come together as the Martin Hart Quartet to take a musical journey through the life of Dave Brubeck.

Brubeck helped reawaken an interest in jazz after the Second World War and sparked a new style which characterised American jazz in the 1950s and 60s. His Time Out album, with the singles Take Five and Blue Rondo a la Turk, was the first modern jazz record to sell a million copies.
