Headteacher Mike Newby is leaving Bredon School at the end of the summer term.
He has been at the boarding school near Upton since 2001.
"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at the school and would very much like to thank the children, staff and parents for their support," he said.
"I currently have a number of opportunities open to me and will be deciding in the near future in which direction I want to develop my career."
The school's managing director, David Keyte, paid tribute to Mr Newby.
He said: "Mike's steady influence and optimism have been of great value to Bredon School during his tenure as headmaster. I would like to wish him and his wife, Joan, all the very best as they move on to new challenges."
Meanwhile, the school has also announced a change in the care of boarding pupils, to separate the role of boarding houseparents and teachers.
From September, houseparents will focus solely on looking after children in their care, without having teaching responsibilities as well.
The change is being made as part of a review of staffing at the school.
Mr Keyte said: "We need houseparents who are child care professionals able to concentrate on looking after our boarders in the evenings and weekends, without having to teach during the day as well."
