IN your article on the front page of the Ledbury Reporter (April 8) 'Campaign-ers welcome the withdrawal of plans for pub', you claim local people welcome this.

In fact, of the 19 houses in Broom's Green only three objected to the plans and ten wrote letters of support.

On the day after the closing date for letters to be submitted to Forest of Dean District Council, 54 letters of support had been submitted, and 40 against. Suddenly, after the due date, some 100 further letters of opposition appeared. Surely the planning officers should not accept that situation?

I would suggest CAMRA spends its energy on supporting struggling existing pubs rather than trying to reopen one which has no future.

It is a situation to ponder when the planning officers think that three B&Bs will cause more traffic on a substandard road than a pub!

The area is crying out for good B&B facilities, surely that is better than a pub which cannot and never will make money.

I am sure if someone wanted to expand the pub facilities, the local planners would find the substandard road a problem!
