SUPPLIERS to MG Rover have been left with estimated debts running into tens of millions of pounds.
This will hit dozens of firms in Worcestershire, particularly in Droitwich, Bromsgrove and Redditch.
A survey taken by Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry of 25 suppliers indicates that their debt alone with MG Rover is £9m. It is on this basis that the total estimate has been made.
A meeting of MG Rover suppliers to respond to their immediate financial concerns was due to be held at Chamber offices at 5.30 this evening.
The BCI will examine how the plight of the companies can be eased and will urge the Government and banks to take urgent action.
"There is a very real and immediate crisis for suppliers," said Sue Battle, BCI chief executive."We are already actively engaged through the emergency supplier support scheme in taking action.
"We are looking at other practical help we can provide to companies who may have to lay off people or even make them redundant. Many have firms have already had to take action.
The meeting comes as Rover workers were warned that the Government funds, which have kept the firm alive since it went into administration last week, are expected run out on Sunday.
