NEW jobs could be created in Lower Wick in Worcester after the Co-op took over the ownership of the Costcutter convenience store.
The cost of buying the business has not been revealed but the Co-op says it will spend £100,000 on improving facilities at the store in Canada Way.
"We can offer local shoppers a more comprehensive range of products, competitive prices and excellent promotions," said Co-operative Group regional chief officer Mark Roberts.
The store is now open for business as a Co-op with all 21 existing staff transferring their employment to the new owners.
The retailer said it expects to recruit additional staff when it revamps the store later this year.
It will be converted to the Co-op's Welcome convenience format which the company says "provides a bright and modern shopping environment."
"This is another significant investment in Worcester for the Co-operative Group and we look forward to serving the local community with the best in modern convenience shopping," said Mr Roberts.
