TENBURY Swimming Pool is to close on two of the busiest holidays of the year because no-one uses the facilities and there is not enough parking.

General manager, Amanda Dobb says the leisure attraction will shut on both May bank holiday Mondays because people don't go swimming on bank holidays and the car park is full of cars visiting the boot sale.

"It's something that we do every year; we don't open on bank holidays because we are used as a public toilet from the car boot sale and the carnival and no-one comes in," she added.

She was responding to criticism about the pool's closure from the chairman of Tenbury Tourism Group, Chris Dell.

"They put a public notice up at the pool," he said, adding that season ticket holders would have already paid for their tickets so it seemed unfair that the service was not available to them.

"I asked why they were closed because sometimes there is a good reason for it but they said it was because of parking. They are running a swimming pool not a car park. What about all the people who live within walking distance of the pool?"
