LUCTONIANS showed their class to win 32-5 at Hereford and book a place in the North Midlands Cup semi-final.

A capacity crowd saw Lucs, who play two levels higher than Hereford, open their account in the fifth minute when flanker Ben Moss charged down a clearing kick to touch down. Jeremy Wheadon struck the conversion.

Within minutes, Lucs prop Antony Marfell was yellow carded and during his absence Hereford enjoyed their best period of play but failed to reduce the deficit by missing two kickable penalties.

Hereford were not to be denied, however, and in the 20th minute full-back Richard Mason crossed the line. The conversion was missed.

Wheadon increased the visitors' lead with a penalty. Lucs registered a second try through centre Richard Henwood. Wheadon added the extra points and made a try-saving tackle before half-time.

Lucs' Mark Burdon went over for a third try but the touch line conversion was missed. Wheadon quickly made amends with a second penalty.

Lucs should have added a fourth try when centre Effron Heather sliced through but again poor finishing saw Hereford hold out. Lucs lost a forward for a second time when Burdon was shown yellow.

Lucs' final try came when lock Troy Looms intercepted a wayward pass and his run to the line was simplified by the absence of a midfield defence as two Hereford three-quarters had been red carded. A final conversion provided Lucs with a comfortable win.

Meanwhile, Bromsgrove crashed out of the North Midlands Cup, losing their quarter-final match 15-12 at Whitchurch.

Meanwhile, Kidderminster Carolians climbed out of the Midlands Three West (North) relegation zone with an 11-8 victory at Wolverhampton.

Kidderminster have a one-point advantage over their relegation rivals going into next Saturday's final match at Sutton Coldfield.

Both teams missed easy penalty chances but as the KC's scrum were beginning to dominate, they inexplicably lost the ball against the head and outside-half Francois Marais touched down. The try was not converted.

The visitors' pressure paid off after 36 minutes when centre Dan Quinn forced his way over on the left. The conversion attempt failed.

The hosts had their second-row forward sin-binned for repeated offside as the teams turned around at 5-5.

KC's were penalised for a hand in the ruck after the break and the hosts' scrum-half, Greg Jones, kicked the resulting penalty for an 8-5 advantage.

The turning point came when Wolves' captain was shown yellow. Fincher kicked a penalty to level the scores.

Wolverhampton conceded another penalty and Fincher kicked the three points to make for 11-8.

Another home team forward was yellow-carded late on.

Mark James scored two tries as Kidderminster Seconds defeated Dixonians 25-12.

The Thirds beat Chaddesley Corbett Seconds 25-15.
