CHURCHGOERS should think about which candidates best serves Christian values when they vote in the General Election, says the Bishop of Hereford.
Anthony Priddis has written to parishioners highlighting four key issues he thinks they should consider before they go to polling stations on Thursday, May 5 to choose their MP.
The church has also produced a leaflet containing ideas for issues to ask candidates about.
"What is important is that we take the opportunity to quiz Parliamentary candidates about the issues that really matter and push them to speak positively about their plans for the common good of our nation and the world," he said.
"The Gospel has a great deal to say about the care for God's people and creation, to work for justice, peace and the common good.
"We need to encourage this in all our political parties and go out and vote for the candidate who will most further this agenda."
Issues highlighted in the letter include poverty, family life and the environment.
In addition, a special edition of the diocesan publication, Skateboard, encourages people to challenge politicians on issues such as marriage and family life, debt, health and the grey vote.
Candidates will be quizzed in churches and parish halls until the end of April.
Copies of Skateboard are available at www.hereford.
anglican.org, at The Diocesan Office, The Palace, Hereford, HR4 9BL and in churches across the parish.
