COMPANIES and organisations are being invited to get all fired up for this year's dragon boat racing challenge.

The event takes place at the Severn Boat Festival, to be held in Worcester from July 29-31.

Worcester racecourse, and the adjoining River Severn, will be the venue for the three-day festival that will attract both serious boating enthusiasts and amateurs.

With more than 250 craft, food, antique and boating memorabilia stalls, a full entertainment programme, children's adventure village, and river-based activities, there is something for everyone.

The organisers would like to give local people the chance to get involved.

Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese sport where large boats, with 10 to 16 paddlers, race against each other - there's even a drummer on every boat to help everyone paddle in time.

The dragon boats themselves are 15-metre long "canoes" decorated with a dragon's head and tail.
