SPECIAL Olympics Redditch put on a five star show for the West Midlands five-a-side competition on Saturday.

Nearly 20 teams from across the region including Dudley, Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Leamington and Worcestershire descended on Trinity High School for the annual event.

And not content with hosting the event Special Olympics Redditch had three teams entered in the competition.

Special Olympics Redditch Ron Daykin said: "All the teams are graded by ability and put into different divisions before kick off. If we had the time we would assess all the players' skills and abilities before the tournament. Unfortunately we didn't have an extra day so we rely on all the teams who come to grade the teams before hand."

Overall the Redditch teams faired well. In Division D Redditch scooped bronze, in Division C it was silver and in A it was silver again.

Redditch's Robert Laight was awarded a gold medal and Matthew Page a silver for the individual skills section while in the Knockout Cup Redditch C came in fourth and Redditch A took bronze.
